From the mouth of Taylor: This rich-voiced limited edition features sets of difficult-to-procure granadillo, a tonewood that we love. Sonically, its personality is similar to Indian rosewood but its harder and denser makeup produces a complex response with strong bell-like overtones. The wood traditionally has been used for marimba bars because of its clear, chimey tonal quality, and classical guitar makers later adopted it for similar reasons. With this offering we’ve paired granadillo with a cedar top, which adds more touch sensitivity, warmth and complexity. Together, the two woods create a huge overall sound. Because of the overtone-thick response, this guitar is a great match for slower pieces, where the notes have a chance to blossom to their fullest. Visually, each set of granadillo displays a unique blend of red, orange and brown hues, and is subtly embellished by a shaded edgeburst on the back, sides and neck. Sapele binding adds a tasteful color complement, with a matching sapele rosette featuring interlocking “fishbone”-style pieces. Additional appointments include Italian acrylic mini diamonds and black and white top purfling. The guitar also features a Venetian cutaway and Taylor ES2 acoustic electronics.
