The enormous logs were floated downstream to be processed near the port where they would be exported. Along the way, the oldest, most dense logs would settle on the bottom of the floating mass. Some would become trapped by obstructions, while others would take on enough water to ultimately lose their buoyancy and sink to the bottom of the river. Once trapped underwater—often at great depths—the logs became somewhat “preserved” by a relentless barrage of river silt, algae, and lack of oxygen. The wood’s density is a luthier’s dream.

    Martin 1948 0-18 w/gig bag
    Features:

Ok, first things first. This guitar needs a neck set. It's a consigned piece that the owner has taken the saddle and nut down as low as it can go. You could do a temporary fix and put a new nut and saddle in and get it a bit more playable. With that said, it's a super cool old, small body Martin with (you guessed it) incredibly low action. Even with super low action, the instrument sounds good, with higher strings it probably sounds amazing. The Adirondack Spruce top has super wide grain and looks great. However there is a very small crack in the grain right below the pickguard. Original tuners, the back and sides look great and it comes with a gig bag.

    Martin D-28 Authentic 1937 VTS Aged w/hsc
    Features:

Absolutely fantastic in every way and there's only 50 of them in the whole wide world! Really. Not only does it have one of the most authentic relicing jobs we've ever seen, it sounds, plays, feels and just "is" better than any acoustic we currently have in the shop. Is it expensive? Yes...but it's a whole lot less than the real thing and you're worth it. Here's a press release and the spec sheet from our good friends at Martin to tell you more about this fine specimen: C.F. Martin & Co. (Martin Guitar) continues to draw inspiration from their historic legacy with their newest innovative technology process, AGED, which will be unveiled with a new custom shop guitar series at Winter NAMM 2017 in Anaheim, CA from January 19-21, 2017. The new process “ages” a new guitar to replicate the appearance of a classic Martin vintage model. Guitar aficionados and collectors worldwide covet the vintage Martin guitars of the "golden era” of the 1930’s, and Martin’s new AGED series feature a limited run of 50 1937 D-28 Authentics based on the visual hallmarks of a vintage Martin guitar, each one hand-aged with several new touches such as the thinner lacquer finish, Vintage Tone System (VTS), spruce Adirondack tops and unique AGED tuning machines. "There are not many vintage Martins from the 30's in the market, and if you do find one, their price point can be as high as $75,000-80,000, and there has been a demand for a series like this from our customers,” says Fred Greene, Martin Guitar’s VP Domestic Manufacturing. "1937 is widely considered the nirvana of old Martins and once we had all the details, we wanted to create a process that would revitalize the classic look and feel of those iconic models. These new "aged" models will be broken in - it’s akin to a great pair of old jeans or shoes that instantly fit right." Building on the success of Martin's Authentic series, which utilizes the time honored construction techniques of pre-war Martin guitars, Martin’s Custom Shop team now replicates the look and feel of a well-loved vintage instrument. "One of the reasons that the “aging” process is more difficult to do with acoustic guitars then electric is that electric guitars are made from a solid piece so you don’t worry about it falling apart structurally," says Jeff Allen, GM Custom Shop at Martin Guitar. "With acoustic guitars, you have to age the outside and inside – it has to look right on all sides and the aging process can be way more aggressive -it’s a far more delicate process for acoustics." Perhaps the most revered vintage D-28s are the ones created in 1937 with forward shifted hand-scalloped X-bracing, Adirondack red spruce soundboard and a 1 3/4" neck width. This addition to the Authentic series is a recreation of the original 1937 model offered with Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) is employed for the top and braces. The new Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic torrefaction system. The VTS acts much like a time machine in which Martin can target certain time periods and age the top/braces to that era. This focused method allows Martin’s craftsmen and women to recreate not only the pleasing visual aesthetics of a vintage guitar, but also reproduce the special tones previously reserved for vintage instruments. Martin Del McCoury Limited Edition #42 of 50 w/hsc
    Features:

I know this is an acoustic guitar and if you're reading this you're probably mostly interested in acoustics but (indulge me for a second) if you've ever played an electric guitar and your amp has been WAY too loud and your afraid to touch the string because the impending volume might just blow you mind -and eardrums-....that's kind of how it is playing this guitar. The volume and overall boldness of tone is amazing with this guy. Tons of low end, tons of highs, tons of lows; the cool thing is that they're all the same volume. Incredibly balanced sound. Plays fantastic, looks great with possibly the widest Adirondack grain ever, classic styling and (goes without saying) it's a freaking Martin D-18. Great condition, it has been played a bit but has just very minor playing wear. This is a limited run, they only made 50 of them and this is #42. Comes with it's original hardshell case. Here's the cut-n-paste from our buddie on the interweb: True to its inspiration, the Martin D-18 Del McCoury 50th Anniversary Custom Edition features exceptional premium tonewoods. The Adirondack spruce top and scalloped braces are crafted with early '40s-era placement, to produce a powerful, balanced tone. Back and sides are genuine mahogany, which imparts midrange "punch" and clarity. The genuine mahogany neck features a rounded, full thickness "V" profile and 1930's style heel. The body appointments are pure, traditional Style 18: classic Old Style 18 rosette, Style 18 five-element black/white fine line top purfling, Delmar tortoise-brown top, side and back binding, Delmar tortoise-brown end piece, Style 18 back strip, and classic beveled and polished Delmar tortoise color pickguard. Only time can produce the rich patina of the top on Del's '47, but aging toner gives the D-18 Del McCoury 50th Anniversary Custom Edition a good start in that direction. The neck's polished headplate is Madagascar rosewood and the Golden Era C.F. Martin decal and nickel Waverly tuners with oval buttons closely replicate the vintage original. The unbound black ebony fingerboard features Old Style 18 abalone pearl position markers and is matched by the black ebony heelcap. The belly bridge likewise is black ebony. Both the vintage-style angled nut and compensated saddle are crafted from genuine bone. Ebony bridge pins and end pin are topped with abalone pearl dot inlays. To approximate the color of the classic 1940s D-18, the mahogany on the D-18 Del McCoury Custom Edition is stained dark prior to finishing. Martin's flawless polished gloss lacquer finish completes this instrument's classic look. Delivered in a Geib style hardshell case, each Martin D-18 Del McCoury 50th Anniversary Custom Edition guitar features two interior labels; a Del McCoury 50th Anniversary label and a Custom Edition label personally signed by Del McCoury and numbered in sequence with the edition total. In honor of his 50 years in music, only 50 of the D-18 Del McCoury 50th Anniversary Custom Edition will be produced.
